RUSYN NEWS ARCHIVE - 2003

И ми познали Зорана Дїндїча
(Ruske Slovo, 21 March 2003)

Summary:
Ruske Slovo published several personal reactions to the 14 March 2003 assassination of Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić. First, Julije Edelinski writes that on 7 March 1998, he met Đinđić at an event organized to commemorate the eight anniversary of the Democratic Party in Vrbaš.

Prominent Rusyn politician Rafail Ruskovski writes that he knew Đinđić from the 1993 election campaign. Ruskovski then was campaigning for a seat in the parliament of the Republic of Serbia on the Democratic Party ticket, and Đinđić went to Kocur to support his campaign. When Ruskovski won, he Đinđić enjoyed a working relationship.

Silvester Dorokhazi of Kocur also writes about Đinđić’s 1993 trip to Kocur. Dorokhazi points out that Đinđić returned after Ruskovski won the election to congratulate the Rusyn nation on its first member of parliament, and marveled that after such hard times throughout the 1990s, the Rusyns had maintained their separate culture. Đinđić was fond of the Rusyn food prepared in his honor during that trip to Kocur, and enjoyed the Rusyn folk songs and dances that were performed that day.
