Summary:
The Union of Lemkos continues a legal battle to have the real name of Epifanij Drovniak restored in his certificate of birth.

Drovniak, known around the world as a primitive artist Nikifor Krynicki, was born in 1895 to a single Lemko mother Evdokiia Drovniak. In 1962, when he needed to have a passport issued for attending an exhibition in Bulgaria, the local authorities of Krynica issued a birth certificate in which he was renamed Nikifor Krynicki.

Subsequently his works were popularized under this invented name, which--according to the Union of Lemkos--erases his national background. That is why the organization first went to court six years ago. Another hearing in this case has just been heard at the District Court of Muszyna.
