Summary:
The Society of Rusyns and Ukrainians was formed at the end of 2001 in the Istrian center of Rijeka. While the membership is relatively young, they “have had grey hair for quite some time.” The biggest problem, as with many Rusyn organizations, is that there are few young people.

Just after Easter, the Society held its first event, a literary evening dedicated to the recently-published Ruski Kalendar za 2002 Rok. The event drew about 30 people. The Society also participated in the Petrovski Dzvon festival on 18 and 19 May in eastern Croatia.

The big news is that the Society is in talks to hold a Summer School of Rusyn and Ukrainian Languages in the Croatian coastal region.
