YUGOSLAVIA. At the end of February, Vrbas city authorities approved funds to build a Dom Kulture (house of culture) for the Rusyn and Ukrainian cultural society Karpati. The group has been around for twelve years but will only now have a permanent home.

A public discussion on the plan to build the Dom Kulture will take place in March, and in April it will go to the city council.

Karpati president Zvonko Sabo said that Ukraine will donate DEM 100,000 worth of iron and also DEM 95,00 worth of oil for the project. The group predicts DEM 300,000 will be necessary to build its new headquarters.

Karpati has about 300 members active in its folklore, tambura and theatre sections. More than 100 are active in the sections devoted to Rusyn and Ukrainian languages.
