Akcja Wisła była słuszna
(Przegląd-Tygodnik, 22 April 2002)

Summary:
This seemingly yet another article about Operation “Vistula,” published on the occasion of its 55th anniversary is quite different from others. As many Polish authors extended sympathy and expressed regrets for what happened in 1947, Prof. Łagowski stated that what happened was necessary and the right thing to do. The article was followed by numerous letters, phone calls and e-mails to the Professor as well as the editorial board of the newspaper of which some were reprinted under collective title:
“Listy czytelników po felietonie prof. Bronisława Łagowskiego "Akcja "Wisła" była słuszna"”

Most of the texts reprinted support Prof. Łagowski’s stance on the issue and similarly to him fail to mention that Lemkos (victims of the resettlement) took no part in the Polish-Ukrainian struggle during World War II, when thousands of civilians lost their lives. Those mass murders of Poles by Ukrainians are used as an excuse for the resettlement. The only author to underline that Lemkos should not be included in the contents of this Polish-Ukrainian relations was Marcin Jackowski. Although his voice was noted, still another reader (Joachim Kobyliński, Chorzów) while not being sure whether Lemkos should or should not be resettled, underlines that UPA … could have moved farther to the west, into the Lemko Region.
