Refleksje i myśli ciągle aktualne
(Gazeta Krakowska/Gazeta Gorlicka, 21 May 2002)

Summary:
In this article entitled “Reflections and Thoughts That are Still Timely,” the author reminds that 14,096 Lemkos from 52 villages were placed on trains in the Gorlice/Zagórzany railway station in June 1947 and sent to the west. Over 100 of them were imprisoned in the Jaworzno internment camp. While all of their property was either taken over by Polish settlers or nationalized, only some 2,000 managed to return home after the political thaw of 1956. Now, Lemkos and Poles must live on, but it is important that they live together in peace. In order to achieve this, goodwill is necessary. An important act of goodwill on the Polish side is to have the rules of returning Lemko property to its rightful owners worked out by Poland’s government.
