Summary:
The 20th Lemko Vatra Festival has just taken place (July 19-21, 2002) in Żdynia, Poland. 8,000 spectators were expected to arrive. They were entertained by what seemed like an endless number of Lemko and other ensembles from across Eastern Europe and North America. There were practical presentations of Lemko crafts, exhibitions of Easter eggs [pysankŷ] and photography, as well as numerous sports competitions. On the occasion of this jubilee Vatra a special exhibition “The Lemko Jerusalem” is being held at the Gorlice-based art gallery Dwór Karwacjanów. Evenings were concluded with dance parties and rock concerts by Wiktor Morozov and Mertvyj Piven, as well as the ensemble “Tartak.”
