РУСНАЦИ МАЮ СВОЙ НАЦИОНАЛНИ СОВИТ
(Ruske Slovo, 8 November 2002)

Summary: On 2 November, the Rusyn national assembly met at Studio M in Novi Sad to elect the members of the Rusyn National Council. Of the 104 members of the national assembly, called electors, 102 attended.

The Federal Ministry of National and Ethnic Groups sent an observer, as did the Vojvodina regional secretariats for national minorities and education, science and culture. Other political figures from Vojvodina and the city of Kula also attended. The assembly attracted international attention, as evidenced by the presence of observers from the OECD, the United Nations and the Ukrianian embassy to Yugoslavia.

A total of 18 members were elected to the Rusyn National Council according to two lists of candidates. Led by Rafail Ruskovski, list A secured 73 votes. Julijan Ramač led list B, which secured 28 votes. List A won 13 seats in the Rusyn National Council; list B, 5.
