Русины и украинцы хотят Совета
(Mignews.com.ua, 7 May 2002)

Summary:
Mignews reports that a delegation from the Union of Rusyns and Ukrainians of Yugoslavia (Sojuz) met in Belgrade with Ivan Drač, head of the organization Ukrajina-Svit and deputy of the Verhovna Rada of Ukraine as well as Ukrainian ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro, Anatolij Šostak.

The meeting was to review the plans for cooperation between Sojuz and Ukrajina-Svit in the coming year. Sojuz also brought up the issue of forming a National Council which would work with the Serbian and Montenegrin government on issues related to the Rusyn minority. The formation of National Councils are part of the recently-adopted Law on the Protection of the Rights and Freedoms of National Minorities. Sojuz would like to see a single National Council created to represent all Ukrainians in Serbia and Montenegro (i.e., Rusyns, Rusyn-Ukrainians and Ukrainians).

As its name implies, Sojuz is Serbia and Montenegro’s Rusyn-Ukrainian organization. The Ukrainian minority in the country is represented by the organization Prosvita; Rusyns are represented by Ruska Matka.
