RUSYN NEWS ARCHIVE - 2002 Русины и украинцы хотят Совета Summary: The meeting was to review the plans for cooperation between Sojuz and Ukrajina-Svit in the coming year. Sojuz also brought up the issue of forming a National Council which would work with the Serbian and Montenegrin government on issues related to the Rusyn minority. The formation of National Councils are part of the recently-adopted Law on the Protection of the Rights and Freedoms of National Minorities. Sojuz would like to see a single National Council created to represent all Ukrainians in Serbia and Montenegro (i.e., Rusyns, Rusyn-Ukrainians and Ukrainians). As its name implies, Sojuz is Serbia and Montenegro’s Rusyn-Ukrainian organization. The Ukrainian minority in the country is represented by the organization Prosvita; Rusyns are represented by Ruska Matka. |
