RUSYN NEWS ARCHIVE - 2002

Польска Криниця Жыла II. Меджiнародным Бєнале Лемкiвской/Русиньской Културы
(Narodnŷ novynkŷ, 5 June 2002)

Summary:
On 25 and 26 May 2002, the Polish city of Krynica hosted the Second Biennial of Lemko-Rusyn Culture. Andrij Kopča, head of the Stovaryšŷnja Lemkiv, told Narodnŷ novynkŷ that the event aims to present modern Rusyn culture from all of the European states where Rusyns live, and to develop the work of Rusyn organizations.

The chief organizers of the Biennial were the World Congress of Rusyns and Krynica’s local authorities.

Groups from Poland, Ukraine, Slovakia, Yugoslavia and Hungary were all invited, though few could come to participate. A rare highlight, however, was a performance by the group "Skejušan", made up of Rusyn emigrants from Skejuš, Romania who now live in Chomutov, Czech Republic.

The Biennial’s schedule also included an exhibit of Rusyn painters, theatrical productions, performances of choral music, and a poetry reading.
