Representatives of the Hungarian government attended the event in Budapest, along with foreign guests. Romanian Rusyn leaders attended for the first time.

Hattinger reminds those in attendence that 22 May 2003 will be the 300th anniversary of the peasant uprising led by Ferenc Rakoczi.

He also points out that the mandates of the Rusyn self-governments in Hungary end in October. He highlights the successes of the current administration and calls on whomever is to be elected later this year to continue along this successful path.

The Rusyn National Day was organized and supported by the Rusyn self-governments of the V, VIII and XVI districts of Budapest, the Rusyn self-governments of Biatorbad and Komloška and the Organization of Rusyns of Hungary (MARUSE), as well as by private sponsors.
