(Halyts’ki KONTRAKTY, № 19, April 2002)
Summary:
During the recent 3rd Congress of Ukrainian Lemko Organizations in Kyiv it was decided to petition the Polish government to return to the deported in 1944-46 Lemkos their land in the Carpathians. One of the Lemkos in Ukraine who supports this plan is a businessman from L’viv, Andrii Tavpash, who was born in 1934 in the Lemko village of Sviatkova Velyka/Świątkowa Wielka. The author gives the story of Tavpash’s family after the resettlement, underlining that life in Donbas (where they ended up) was worse only than that in Afghanistan, where Tavpash found himself in the early 1980s. Today Tavpash is a prominent member of the Lemko community in Ukraine.
